Laver Cup: Alexander Zverev blasts Team Europe to victory
Zverev defeats Team World's Frances Tiafoe in decisive singles match
Europe retain title in thrilling Laver Cup clash
Alexander Zverev has fired Team Europe to a dramatic Laver Cup victory over Team World, defeating Frances Tiafoe in a nail-biting singles match.
The German star rallied from a set down to beat Tiafoe 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the deciding match, securing a 13-8 victory for Europe.
Zverev's victory sparked wild celebrations from the European team, who have now won four of the five Laver Cups held since the tournament's inception in 2017.
The win was even more impressive considering that Team Europe were without their two top players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who are both injured.
But Zverev stepped up in their absence, winning both his singles matches and teaming with Andrey Rublev to win a doubles match.
In the end, it was Zverev's victory over Tiafoe that proved decisive.
The American had won his first two singles matches of the tournament and was looking to become the first player to win three singles matches in a single Laver Cup.
But Zverev was too strong, and his victory gave Europe the Laver Cup title for the fourth time.
